Thinking pink for charity
The Star, 8 October 2011

PINK was the colour of the day as event hosts calling themselves ‘Luscious Ladies in Shades of Pink’ lived up to their name.

Many dressed up in pink and pink balloons and decorations filled every corner of the grand ballroom in the E&O Hotel in Penang for the fundraiser.

Themed ‘Fun in the Sun’, the event was organised by the Penang Irish Association (PIA) and Food Friends Penang.

The aim was to raise funds for the Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital as well as Rumah Hospice Penang.

Among the activities was a catwalk show with models parading in the latest outfits from Penang’s finest boutiques.

As the models gathered on stage at the end of the show, a singer performed the classic Cyndi Lauper song ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’ to the glee of the audience.

Guests also had fun decorating a gingerbread man guided by the hotel’s chef.

PIA president Maggie Territt was pleased with the turnout at the event.

“The event has exceeded our expectations and we have collected close to RM30,000 through this function,” Territt said.

She added that the cheques would be presented to the organisations at the end of the month after all the money has been collected.

“The most important thing is that through this event, we are celebrating life itself,” she said.

She also said that it was one of the best mornings for her since she moved to Penang more than a decade ago.

“This is one of the largest gathering of expatriates I have attended so far.

“I hope that next year, we will be able to get more to attend,” she said.

Other activities held during the event focused on beauty and wellness.

Raffle draws were also held.
