Irrawaddy Fine Foods

Irrawaddy Fine Foods is the latest venture from Penang-based expatriates Chef Tommes and Louise, who also run the award-winning That Little Wine Bar on Chow Thye Road.

Irrawaddy Fine Foods only opened in November but already it's the talk of Penang, It's located in a fashionable street surrounded by local and international eateries. As you enter the main delicatessen immediately you are hit with the most wonderful aromas, a mixture of freshly baked breads, basil from the home-style pizza's and brewed coffee. The delicatessen is well laid out and full of gourmet items such as a wide range of cut meats, bacon, cheeses, jams, chutneys, home made baked items, plus beers and sausages specially imported from around the world.

Their New York style salad bar is a refreshing addition to Penang, serving unique sandwiches, such as the Reuben and the Middle-Eastern falafel wrap. The sandwiches are made with breads baked daily on the premises. Their baguette is the best I've tasted in Penang. If you closed your eyes and take a bite you could imagine you were sitting in a Paris café. I also tried their fennel and cumin loaf, it was simply delicious. Lots more bread to try!

They are a few dinning areas, at the back of the delicatessen is a very cozy covered garden area, an al fresco area outside and an upstairs dinning area with balcony all perfect to chill out with a lazy breakfast, morning coffee with friends or lunch.

Irrawaddy Fine Foods is very impressive and a place that all foodies must try.

Opening hours are Monday-Saturday 10:00am until 6:00pm, but for later pick up it is possible to phone in orders and collect from That Little Wine Bar too (5:00pm until midnight).
